DISCOVER THE GREAT NORTHERN TRAIL NETWORK

Explore over 250 kilometres of trails at the tip of Newfoundland’s Great Northern Peninsula, where rugged coastlines, sweeping headlands, and quiet forests meet welcoming coastal communities. Developed by the Great Northern Trail Association and its community partners, this evolving network blends newly built paths, restored heritage routes, and remote backcountry treks—from short scenic walks to full-day adventures. Now part of the Trans Canada Trail, the network connects our region’s landscapes and stories to Canada’s national trail system.

The network also includes the Iceberg Trail, a spectacular coastal hiking route linking trails and communities between L’Anse aux Meadows and St. Lunaire–Griquet. Explore it below, or browse our trails to find your next adventure.

The Iceberg Trail

Nearing the end of development, over 40 kilometres of continuous route are already open between L’Anse aux Meadows and Griquet, with new sections extending south toward St. Lunaire in 2027.

The Iceberg Trail is a nearly 50-kilometre through-hike unlike any other, connecting 12 sustainably built trails developed by the Great Northern Trail Association in partnership with St. Anthony Basin Resources Inc. (SABRI). Blending rugged coastal routes, sweeping highland vistas, and quiet forest paths, the trail showcases the raw beauty of northern Newfoundland.

Beginning near the UNESCO World Heritage Site of L’Anse aux Meadows and ending in St. Lunaire–Griquet, the Iceberg Trail offers an unforgettable journey through coastal communities, where hikers can wild camp or enjoy local hospitality.
