The Iceberg Trail
Currently in development, over 30 kilometres of continuous route are already open between L’Anse aux Meadows and Gunner’s Cove, with new sections extending south toward St. Lunaire-Griquet each season. This phased approach ensures every segment is thoughtfully designed and seamlessly connected.
The Iceberg Trail is a nearly 50-kilometre through-hike unlike any other, connecting 12 sustainably built trails developed by the Great Northern Trail Association (GNTA) in partnership with St. Anthony Basin Resources Inc. (SABRI). Blending rugged coastal routes, sweeping highland vistas, and quiet forest paths, the trail showcases the raw beauty of northern Newfoundland.
Beginning near the UNESCO World Heritage Site of L’Anse aux Meadows and ending in St. Lunaire-Griquet, the Iceberg Trail offers an unforgettable journey through coastal communities, where hikers can wild camp or enjoy local hospitality. It’s an experience rooted in sustainability, community, and the untamed spirit of Newfoundland’s Great Northern Peninsula.
