Tea House Hill/American Base Trail

Explore this 5.5-km out-and-back trail near St. Anthony, Newfoundland and Labrador. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 1 h 31 min to complete. This is a popular trail for hiking and mountain biking, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.

Explore the historical remnants of the old Tea House, where Sir Grenfell used to relax after a hard day’s work.
A lookout now stands upon its original foundation. As you pass by memorial plaques commemorating Sir Grenfell, Lady Grenfell, and their colleagues’ final resting place, enjoy views of the harbor and forest from the three lookouts.
Continue along the trail to access the old American Base Road and ruins. During the 1950s and 60s, the Americans occupied an early warning radar detection system and base at this site.
